Next semester, I am going to take College Algebra. Although I have done pretty well (B-/B) throughout my years in middle-school and high-school, I have problems remembering the exact functions/formulas/rules used in algebra, calculus, etc. I seem to be able to remember the lyrics and melody of the song after only listening to it a few times, but can't remember algebraic functions/rules, and such. How can I apply that same "technique" I obviously am subconsciously using to help me remember the math being taught, and subsequently, have that math in my head when I'm taking an exam? I know that the remembering lyrics/melodies thing has to do with me actually liking the song, but there must be a way to apply those listening/memory "skills" to math (or anything, for that matter). Please post serious answers. I abhor dumb users who seem to have left their brain in the frying pan, and decided to post nonsensical answers. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Alrightyy, I need some serouis math help?! ;D?
I have a hugee final tomo! :( Uh oh.. Pray for me! Btw i do know all the stuff, dont call me dumb ;P i just want maybe some tips and a refresher its been a while since middle school now. Here are the sections on what it will be on and about. If you have any tips on any of it. Or what its about I will be highly appreciative of you ! :P Thanks ever so much ! :) The sections are it's all old stuff I was suppose to learn ten million years ago! :P -Venn diagrams -Intersection of sets -Compiments of sets -Cross products of sets ^ Now, all of that stuff is like about unions. Like this -t A = {-5, -3, -1, 1, 3, 5} and set B = {-4, -2, 0, 2, 4}. Find A union B Set C ={Integers less than –6} and set D = {Integers greater than 0}. Find C UNION D Set F = {Integers between and including –10 and –5} and set G = {Integers between and including –5 and 0}. Find F UNION G. Set J = {High School students with brown eyes} and set K = {Middle School students with black hair.}. Find J UNION K Set L = {Algebra Students over 12 years old} and set M = {Algebra Students under 18 years old.}. Find L UNION M Next sectionnn :P -Evaluating Basic Equations -Connections -Consecutive even and odd integers And next section :) Heres a couple things of like defitions. Distributive Property Commutative Property Associative Property Symmetric Property Reflexive Property Transitive Property Identity property of multiplication Identity property of addition Additive Inverse Multiplicative Inverse And here are the sections to the Chapter. -Simplify. -Advanced equations -Solving equations w/ fractions. -Absolute value with isolate. -Literal! -Functions. And last section!:) -Linear equations -Special Lines. -Slopes & intercepts. -Writing equations of lines. -Advanced Slope. Btw can you rate me? Heres my picture... Hahah just kidding! Btw thanks again! :) 10 points! moreResolved Question: WHy can't teens help me understand what I'm going through?
First of all I didn't reach puberty until last June. I am 24 now and a rare disease prevented that from happening until I got put on birth control pills by an endocrinologist. I don't work, I live at home with my parents because I had way too many physical and mental problems to function and I'm on social security disability. Well that birth control pill made me functional. Problem is my parents won't let me go they told me to find a way to lol. Since puberty I have experienced being sexually aroused all the time, having dirty thoughts, my mind in the gutter, being aroused by any man regardless of age(no older than 40) and marital status. I would never get involved with a married man! Also for the first time I have experienced emotions of jealousy, covet and extreme impatience. I am wondering if this old lady is right about what she said. She said that talking to teenagers isn't going to help because they haven't gone through what you gone through. They are too busy to be turned on or have dirty thoughts. They are focused on school, sports, friends and so on. They don't lay around like you do all day they work. Is she right? I get tired easily but since I have gotten healthier since the hormone therapy I can work for more than a few hours every day. Thing is I can't drive, I don't drive and I live in the middle of nowhere(aka country). I'm confused! People say teens are going through what I'm going through! Is it just teen boys or girls too? So a teenager can't help me out? By the way I don't lay around all day I do chores for my mom. I am mad at this old woman. Is she right? Why or why not? Do they experience jealousy, covet, impatience? Were they unintentionally turned on by their math teacher or something? or had dirty sexual thoughts? moreResolved Question: Is she really right about that?

I am behind the most advanced math track in my high school. This was a function of switching school districts during middle school. I'm quite a good student--3.95GPA unweighted and I have tried to create a heavy course load. I am currently a junior enrolled in AP statistics and AP Chemistry. I have As in both and neither are overwhelmingly challenging. I am only in pre-calculus however, but many juniors like myself are taking calculus this year. Because of certain classes I would like to take next year, I need calculus as a prerequisite, in particular AP Physics C. My school offers Calculus AB and BC, but requires you to take AB before BC. Would it be worth it taking Calculus I over the summer this coming year at my local community college? I handle math well, but would i be able to handle the college curriculum? What would be the amount of time i would have to dedicate to the work? moreResolved Question: What more do I need to do to get into MIT?
I am Junior at my public high school this year and was recently accepted into a nearby magnet Math and Science Center where I now take AP Calculus AB, Physics, and AP Biology. At my regular school I take IB English 11, IB Business and Organization and AP Psychology. I have already taken a semester of Honors Physics, Honors Chemistry, Honors Earth Science, and Honors Biology(all of which I received an A in). Additionally, I have taken Geometry (Middle School), Advanced Algebra, FST(Functions, Statistics, and Trigonometry), Honors American History, Honors English 9, Honors English 10, European History, Ancient World History, Honors Government, Honors Economics, French 2 and 3, Band, and Wind Ensemble(basically Honors band). I have also taken Debate I and Forensics I (acting class). I have taken the AP Macroeconomics exam and received a 4, taken the ACT with a composite of 31, 30 English, 26 Math, 36 Reading and 30 Science, the PSAT with a 67 math, 63 Reading and 59 Writing, (will take that again this year), took the SAT earlier this year and received a 630 Reading, 610 Math, and 600 Writing with an Essay score of 10(out of 12). Extra curricular activities include being on the Debate team with numerous trophies and state championship positions, working with Jack Hoogendyk in parades and other volunteer forms, a missions trip in Illinois where I helped rebuild a center for women who recently were released from jail, worked with the impoverished by replacing the windows in their houses, and working with Margaret O'Brien(not the star) for her run for the State House. In Wind Ensemble, my group traveled to New York City to play in Carnegie Hall. I have also taken English Composition 110 for one semester at a nearby community college and received an A in the class. My father and I have also constructed an observatory for our telescope in the backyard and we were previously members of the Kalamazoo astronomy club. Last summer I attended a 4-week classic Debate camp at the University of Michigan, and this summer, I attended another 4-week camp at the same university called the Michigan Math and Science Scholars Program. I have a GPA of 3.8(unweighted). I am definitely going to retake the SAT, and plan on taking SAT II subject tests. I took both the SAT and PSAT early sophomore year, and am going to retake the PSAT in October.I am also starting a research project regarding tardigrades (water bears) and their ability to survive in space-like conditions before anhydrobiosis (ability to shut down metabolism). moreVoting Question: What more do I need to do to get into MIT?

I am contemplating putting together a service for homeschooled children in the middle grades, and I am looking for input. The service would be live online math classes for 5th grade through High School Geometry students. Students would be a part of a "web meeting" or "web conference" and would participate in a real-time, virtual classroom. I, as the teacher, would present material and guide students through a traditional math curriculum. The virtual classroom would function similarly to a normal classroom, but without many of the negatives. Students would be able to see and hear me present material on their home computer via a high quality web cam, be able to ask and answer questions, as well as work with other students. All of this could happen w/o leaving home. The classes would be held 4-5 days each week and would be about 1 hr. long. Cost would be about $50/month for a 10 month school year. Thanks for your input. moreResolved Question: is there an eight grader that is SMART lol that could help me with my math?

When I was younger, I scored well on the standardized tests and generally did well in school(I think my verbal scores were generally above the 90th percentile). But when middle school started I really did not read as much as I was supposed to because the reading load exceeded what I was used to. This continued throughout high school, and as a result I did pretty poorly on the SAT, at least compared to what I did as a kid(690 math 530 verbal). I was going through some stuff, ie. depression. I was psychologically evaluated because of the depression and the poor performance in school. The psychologists diagnosed me with autism(high functioning) and said that I was the opposite of learning disabled,(my IQ was in the very superior range). The thing is, there was not much reading factored in to the test, although there was vocab and similarities. My question is: why did I start to do poorly in school? I just want your conclusions based on the stated information even if it is not professional moreResolved Question: Can you explain functions to me?
We're learning them in Math Class ....but I don't understand. I don't want to ask for help since I'm one of the smartest so the fact that everyone else gets it but me is embarrassing. Can you show me in examples what's a function and what's not? I'm in middle school so you know. Don't go crazy w/ the college words there. It's not that I can't figure it out, but I'm short on time to learn so I need simple info. fast. moreResolved Question: Academically screwed?
I just turned eighteen years old. I was taken out of public school in fouth grade to be home schooled. My mother taught me for about a year, then i fell ill. I was put on heavy medication for two years and therefore stopped doing my work. I was then taken off of the medication but have been struggling with chronic migraines and severe panic attacks since. I have done no home school work since then. I have taught myself most of the stuff i need to know to function. But certain subjects (Math in particilar) i am still on a middle school level. Now that i am eighteen it has really hit me that i have to get my diploma if i want to make something of myself. I have to get my diploma online for the medical reasons stated above. But every legit online course requires high school transcripts to even consider me. Since i have none it's proving to be impossible to earn my diploma. Does anyone have ANY advice that could help me? It is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. moreResolved Question: What to do: 12 year old son with autism, harassed by female classmate?
My son is 12 years old, has autism, and is considered "high functioning." He has been in special education classes until this year, and now his math class is an "inclusion" class: they've got him in there with kids who have no disabilities. He's a kind and gentle kid and tries hard in school. Sometimes he gets rattled at social situations he doesn't get, and we all know that middle school is full of new social situations. One of his female classmates has taken to telling him (in front of her friends) that she wants him to be her boyfriend, trying to kiss him, etc. My son doesn't know how to deal with her and is plainly not interested. She seems to be doing this just because she thinks his reaction is funny...and to "perform" for her friends. When he told me about this, I explained that she is being a jerk and just trying to show off for her friends by making him upset.I suggested that he avoid getting into it with her, and either: 1) Say "whatever" in a bored tone of voice, then move on, or 2) Say "like you're hot enough to go out with me" and move on. I just hate that this kid has nothing better to do than tease a kid who already has enough going on in his life.
