I was thinking of doing Bass Guitar (electric) or singing. I have an acoustic guitar, and I'm not amazing at it, but I'm okay. My band teacher said that that's not a very popular position and I was thinking I could try that. I learn music pretty quickly. Is it hard to learn bass guitar? Does it take time? Are the fingerings different from acoustic? And then I could sing. I have a pretty good voice, but I don't know about jazz. Is there anything different you have to do? What are some good jazz songs to practice to? Is jazz much harder to sing than like a musical song or something? Does it take a lot of time to learn? And finally, which should I do? Thanks!!! moreOpen Question: I have to make a musical instrument for school, any ideas?

So we already know a few things >> MUSIC is not allowed in Islam - due to reasons such as it creates hypocrisy in one's heart; it was shunned by the prophet (S.A.W); it falls under the category of "vain talk"; etc..... >> Islamic nasheeds and nazams are allowed as it glorifies Allah and reminds you of Allah as it plays and rings in your head BUT What about those Islamic songs that praise Allah, the Prophet (S.A.W), other prophets, etc ... but has musical instruments with it? Is it prohibited as well? If so... Why? Thank YOU Salaam!!! moreOpen Question: What is your favorite instrument?

Okay, so my younger sister has always been labelled 'talented'. She's practically taught herself everything she can do. She's had a raw talent for sport ever since she could walk resulting in age champion, (3 years) etc, and is always asked if she's played for club, but she gave all that up for the Arts when she started high school. She's a self taught artist who now does art commissions - everyone thinks she's amazing. She taught herself how to knit, crochet, sew, paint and draw (many styles), cook.. She's an awesome photographer. She's extremely talented with music too. She taught herself how to read music, play piano, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, harmonica, recorder, musical saw, ocarina (list goes on).. Tell her to play a song from a musical era on one of those particular instruments - she'd be able to. One day she just started singing and she's amazingly good. She also sings operatically which also sounds damn good too (especially in the shower). At one point we all though she was taking lessons without telling us. She's also one step ahead of everyone in many ways. She's good with languages too. She was dubbed the best French student last year up until now and she didn't even want to to French. She was good at Chinese, but gave that up also. She also taught herself weird languages (double dutch, ubbi dubbi, pig latin, etc..) and we can never understand her. She has a love of nature, especially with animals and researches marine life (to be more specific) all the time. She's also been told that she has an old soul and that she's an indigo (if you don't know what they are, search them up in wikipedia or google), but she absolutely hates that label. She thinks it's condescending to others who are considered 'indigo' or an 'old soul'. (Funny though, she loves everything about the gothic, victorian and old fashioned days and envies people who weren't brought up with ipods, the tight world it has become). She used to think she was born to late but has accepted it as it is. She's got an absolutely wicked sense of humour but on the other hand she's sweet, caring and just extremely lovely and humble. Lots of people are sour towards her and are obviously jealous but she doesn't mind. She's also gorgeous and has always been told that she should consider modeling. When people get to know her properly, she's often asked, "What CAN'T you do? Seriously?" All this and she's just fifteen. I am not exaggerating in anyway and obviously can't list the other 3 quarters of what she can do; I could go on all week, but I was just wondering if anyone knew anyone like this? Or know a word for it, or something? ..Or you could just leave a couple of lines of what you think of this? Oh, and I also forgot to mention she's literally ambidextrous.By the way, I am extremely proud of her and support her 100% and would never resent the darling. I'm sure she'd do the same thing for me. moreOpen Question: what are some factors that contribute to the overall sound produced by a musical instrument?

Ever since he found out how to play with his organ, he stays down in the basement playing with it. It's actually an old pump organ, and I'm really not sure why he has taking such an interest in playing with it so frequently. The racket he makes is unbearable. Even the neighbors have been complaining about it. I've tried to ask him to be a little quieter, but he says you "can't turn the volume knob down on passion". Apparently, he's very passionate about his organ. Is it normal for a person to become obsessed with a musical instrument? moreResolved Question: Did you hear that Swine flu has inspired a song....?
How creative is this?! i wonder if was done truly to make sense of the unknown...or merely for the marketing value...either ways, its interesting & nice to hear... Swine flu may be inspiring fear worldwide, but for Stephan Zielinski of San Francisco, California, it inspired a song. The virus has the classification H1N1 because it includes two key viral proteins, hemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase (N). Zielinski took the genetic sequence of a variant of hemagglutinin and created a computer algorithm to turn it into music. Zielinski, 41, is not a biochemist or a professional musician -- he's a writer, photographer, computer programmer, and blogger who creates music in his spare time. But he's fascinated that, even though biologists can map the genome of the virus and predict what the hemagglutinin protein looks like, the human body still cannot distinguish it as the "bad guy" -- at least, not until there's a vaccine. "Although the map is there and you can even make a song out of it, we can't explain it to these itty bitty little cells in body," he said. Using computer programs he created himself, as well as a commercial product, Zielinski composed his song by assigning instruments and musical notes to various properties of the protein. Zielinski took the various categories of amino acids, the building blocks of the protein, and assigned each a different instrument -- piano, organ, low synthesizer, percussion. The melody was created by assigning notes to specific amino acids. Each beat of the song also corresponds to one of numerous amino acids. The work was done entirely with a computer and took about six hours Tuesday, he said. He first learned of the sequence through an immunologist friend at the Mayo Clinic, he said. Zielinski saw it as a form of highly organized information that a human did not design. "The only way I could look at that and make sense of it, since I'm not a biochemist, was, well, I could try translating it into another very organized form of information that people do, and then see if I could hear anything. And the answer, of course, turned out to be no." But even if the mystery of the virus did not reveal itself in musical form, the result is a curiously melodic, innovative, somewhat soothing work. Dr. Jay Steinberg, infectious disease specialist at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia, called it "nice ambient music" that's reminiscent of Brian Eno. moreOpen Question: How do you justify listening to music?
References within the context of the Holy Qur`aan along with the Hadith of the Prophet confirm that music is haraam. Interpreters of the Qur`aan have defined the term `lahwal hadith` which is mentioned in the Qur`aan as: 1) Singing and listening to songs. 2) Purchasing of male and female singers. 3) Purchase of instruments of fun and amusement. When Sayyidana Abdullah Ibne Mas`ood , a very close companion of our Prophet was asked about the meaning of the term `lahwal hadith`, he replied “I swear by Him besides whom there is no other God,that it refers to ghinaa (singing ).” One hadith from the Bukhari Shareef, confirms unlawfulness of music and singing : `There will be people of my Ummah who will seek to make lawful; fornication, wine-drinking and the use of ma`aazif ( musical instruments ).` source: http://www.inter-islam.org/Prohibitions/Mansy_music.htm Now, I am not judging people who listen to music, but seeing that how do you justify listening to music with musical intruments? moreOpen Question: Wipro and the musical instrument believed to have roots in Persia. Hi, I am 17 and I feel I don't have any real hobby as my friends do. Everyone either plays sport or plays a musical instrument or acts in the school theatre, etc. while I have rather (intellectual) interests than hobbies. I like politics, business, history, reading and architecture but none of my hobbies is very creative. What's even worse is that I don't have any long-term hobby as others do. People always talk about what they have been doing for many years and they have many friends they made during the time. I' ve taken up some activities like dancing, piano and debating recently but I am not good at them yet and didn't make much friends yet. I would like to become a scout but I think it isn't possible to become one in my age. Whatever I join the majority of people there have been members for many years and I feel inappropriate. It's the same as in school. They talk about things they underwent in the past. I really think that in my 17 I have already missed the right time. I wish I was younger and knew what I would like to be in the future. I trained a combat sport when younger but I don't want to start again. I wish I could join the scouts and had a real, time-filling hobby like others but there are guys who joined in the age of 6, seem to have already underwent everything and don't want to meet anyone new. It's not only my fault I was passive lately, my parents didn't stimulate me much. I don't know what to do. I want to have friends and a stable group of people I can meet after school and where I can feel as accepted as others, I want to have an interesting hobby like others do to become interesting in their eyes. I thank you greatly for your answers!first, thank a lot :) well, i basically know what I want to do(scouting, for exapmle) I am just afraid if it isn't too late? moreOpen Question: which musical instrument do you think is the hardest to play?

I also like the radio because the presenters are really funny. moreResolved Question: Do you believe that it's a sin to have musical instruments at a church service?
There is one small religion that thinks that it is. It's puzzling because there is nothing in the Bible that commands that musical instruments at church is a sin. This religion believes that since the Bible does not directly mention the use of musical instruments in church, then is a sin. I've seen some such services on TV and the pastors sometimes spends much of the sermon vilifying churches that do. One such pastor behaved as if allowing musical instruments in a church service is unmentionable and I'm not exaggerating. These same TV shows will have microphones, electric lights, musical tuners and obviously cameras in its services and apparently that's ok. If a religion chooses to not have musical instruments in its service then that is it's prerogative but it goes too far to criticize others. It's idiotic and counter productive in my opinion. Do you think it's a Sin to use musical instruments in a church service? Thanks for including that musical, Angel. It's a real treat and a blessing! moreVoting Question: I need physics help please!!?
